Caughlin Parkway - Reno - (775) 828-6444
This is one of the very best restaurants in Reno, and
all of Nevada. The cuisine is Continental, the decor
is superb, and the cafe has a wonderful view of Reno
from its hill location. You'll find Café Soleil in the
Caughlin Ranch Center, at Caughlin Parkway and South
McCarran. Reservations are recommended. |

"The Best Italian Food in Reno" is not too high praise
for this small place on Virginia Street, just south
of downtown. You'll see a unexciting storefront, and
when you go in, you'll experience the ambience of a
European cafe. Luciano and the staff are great, and
the food really is the best Italian food in Reno. |

North Sierra - Reno - (775) 323-5550
The full name of this resstaurant is "Ichiban Japanese
Steak House and Sushi Bar." Aside from sushi, the restaurant
is a Teppanyaki place, but quite superior to others
(in Reno or elsewhere). It has a second floor location,
at Sierra and 2nd, in the downtown area. Food is prepared
at your table, with the chefs doing their athletic and
funny thing. The restaurant is styled like a Japanese
garden, quite different from Eddie's Fabulous 50's Casino
-- where it is located. |

Casino towns have their buffets (and buffet fans). The
Eldorado is known for its good food, and this buffet
is no exception. This has long been regarded the best
buffet in Reno, although like any buffet, the Chef's
Pavilion has its ups and downs. It's open for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner, with a full bar available. |

Victorian Avenue - Sparks - (775) 355-7711
Located in downtown Sparks, this brew pub is a great
place to go when you want a home-made brew (they have
several), and some comfort food. The food is basic pub
fare -- sandwiches, sausages, burgers -- filling and
well prepared. The place has a friendly atmosphere and
offers an alternative to the bland casino restaurants.
It's a short walk from the Nugget and Victorian Square,
between Pyramid and Rock streets. |

S. Virginia Street - Reno - (775) 852-0202
This is a popular restaurant serving Mexican cuisine,
including mesquite-fired food with a Southwest touch.
It's a busy place, with live entertainment Fridays and
Saturdays, and an open mike session on Wednesdays. Witjh
its large TV screens, the place is also a hangout for
sports buffs. The menu runs to the standard Mexican
dishes (seafood and chicken burritos, carne asada, and
fajitas (but with the restaurant's own touches). Highlights
include fresh fish of-the-day and "Spicy Shrimp," an
herby treatment of jumbo shrimp, mesquite broiled. |
